Shin Splints refers to pain experienced along the tibia (shinbone), from ankle to knee. Shin Splints are caused by swelling of the muscles, tendons and bone tissue around shinbone, commonly caused by high impact sports like running and dancing.
Sudden, unexpected movement like rolling an ankle, muscle tightness in the calf or using unsupportive footwear while exercising can all add to the cause and severity of Shin Splints.
